Tomorrow belongs to God

A couple of days ago I watched a sermon from TD Jakes titled “tomorrow belongs to God” based on Matthew 6 verses 24 to 34 "do not worry about tomorrow… Seek first the kingdom of God and all things will be added on to you."
Toward the end of his sermon, Bishop TD Jakes became emotional as he was recalling from where he started. The hardship he and his wife went through. Never in his wildest dream, he would have imagined being where he is today. As he was faithful to God, serving Him diligently despite the hardship, God blessed him even more. I was truly moved by his testimony, and a question came to my mind about the vision we can have for ourselves and God’s vision and how “the culture” is influencing the church in this regard more than the church is influencing the culture. Quiet often people use Habakkuk 2 verse 2: "write the vision, make it plain run with it" with not much emphasis on spending time with God for your vision should be in alignment with the purpose God has for your life.
From this concept, it is easy to fall into the preconceived idea that God will bless in a way everything our heart is longing for, our vision. Although God can, our desire should be to do His will, to fulfill the purpose He has for us. After all, in Habakkuk 2 verse 1 it is written that Habakkuk stood at his guard post and kept his watch to see what the Lord would say to him, it is only then that God told him to write the vision and make it plain, the vision being given by God.
Sometimes I wonder whether we surrender to God or we expect God to surrender to us. Are we truly humbling ourselves before God as God called us to do?
I do not imply that the desire to achieve success in any area is to go against God's will, I am talking about trying to push our agenda forward to God with no intention to hear what He has to say about it. We can plan for our life and it is good to do so but it is better to let God shape our plan.
The Bible is filled with people who did not plan how God will use them, how wealthy they would become or what should they do to have a particular title or anointing, but God used them mightily and rewarded their obedience. We also find in the Bible people who had a certain opinion of who they were and what they ought to be and they disobeyed or were not mindful of God and were cut off from the honour, wealth, and title that they felt were entitled to them.
My understanding is that seeking first the kingdom of God starts with an available heart toward God. I would even say having an available heart is the prerequisite for seeking first the Kingdom of God. Indeed, we can be in the presence of God without being transformed if we come with our own agenda. For instance, the spirit of God was upon King Saul, and he was anointed. However, due to his shortcoming, his self-centeredness instead of God-centeredness, he disobeyed God and God's anointing departed from him. And Juda of Iscariot was in the presence of Jesus yet his heart was shadowed by his greediness and selfishness and he went from a disciple of Christ to the one who betrayed him.
TD Jakes was not looking to have one of the biggest churches in America, he was not looking to be a best-seller author. He started as a young man who loves God and was found faithful to God despite the hardship, his heart was available, and God rewarded him and blessed him even more than he could have dreamed of. He was a man whose main focus was to seek first the kingdom of God and all these things were added on to him.
Tomorrow belongs to God, and you can trust as you are being faithful and obedient to Him he will provide for all of your needs and will bless you even more than you could have ever imagined. Lord, I pray for the person reading this blog, that you give them the grace to hear you and obey you. That they will have clarity of purpose in you. I pray that they will not conform to the world when facing difficulties or victories but that they will conform to your Words. I pray you give them the capacity to overcome any obstacle they will face as they are walking on the path you plan for them to be partakers of Your Kingdom.
Amen
